Pre-Production - David's Character Profile

David Krille - Character Profile

Age                                                                  Late 50’s

Before prison, David was a petty criminal, in and out of prison from a young age for crimes such as theft, drink driving and assault. Close friends and family considered David a misunderstood character with a good heart. His life long prison sentence for murder and arson was confirmation to many that he is an unstable, dangerous human being.

David on the other hand does not remember ever committing this crime and frequently protested his innocence. He eventually stopped fighting against the evidence found against him and worked on changing himself as a human being while inside. He took up plumbing while inside and worked on improving himself as a person, even turning to God. All this amounted to a somewhat early release, serving 30 years of his life sentence, cited as no longer being a dangerous man to society.

Leaving prison did not seem like a daunting prospect for David. Instead he saw it as an opportunity to start his life over for the better. A stroke of genuine innocence has been brushed over a once very guilty man.

He instantly began looking for jobs and was lucky enough to earn a temporary work placement as a plumber, a trade he picked up while serving his sentence. Upon meeting Stephen while working, he takes the opportunity to rekindle their once strong friendship.

Despite his positive outlook on life, David’s life is very dull, as reflected by the clothes he wears (drab, dark and murky colours), the box apartment he currently occupies and the food he eats (mostly cheap microwave meals).

David comes across as a very positive, understanding and forgiving character, which for the most part, he is. However, David is also a very introverted and confused character looking to become a more extroverted and more enlightened person. Upon meeting Stephen, he finds himself constantly questioning his past as well as the past of those around him. The anger he has for his past is bottled deep within and is waiting to be released.

David’s introverted character is evident by his mannerisms and the way he speaks. He is frequently seen with his hands in his pockets, speaks very quietly and isn’t known for sparking any real conversations.
